Thuya Burl

I have a really nice piece of Thuya burl that I want to use on hunter. Is thuya hard enough for slabs on its own? I don't have any way to stabalize it nor can I afford to send it out. The knife will have front bolsters only so the thuya would be exposed along the butt end of the knife as well.
Thanks
Steve

Thuya Burl

I think that would be OK. It would have more support that way than it did on a stub tang kitchen knife I made and that worked fine...

Its pretty tuff wood and its full of resin. Its one wood that doesn't take stabalizing well. A good coat of wax seems to work best for me. Did you know that Thuya burl is a root? Ray
