Yes, it did. I've tested it and already sent it back to you. The results were written up and sent to the email address you provided. Here's what I wrote:

Jason,

Just tested your knife. The ricasso tested at Rc 58, which I think is very good for 1084. The edge seemed to recover from the brass rod test but chipped a little when I hammered it into a piece of brass. That's not really bad as it is severe abuse and it didn't chip all that badly.

I then attempted to break the blade - emphasis on 'attempted'. Bent it 90 degrees but it wouldn't break - a very tough blade! It did take a set after that, I'd guess about 25 degrees or so, but it wouldn't break.

Your grind was one of the best I've seen and the edge was also among the very best. Overall, this HT is fine as it is. I see that you tempered for 3 hours twice, this is not usually considered necessary for 1084. A temper of one hour twice is more than enough. It might be these long tempers that made your blade so tough, or maybe the Parks 50. Tough is good, of course, but usually comes at the cost of edge holding. Unless you need extreme toughness on a future knife you might get better all around performance by making the blade slightly harder.

I'll mail it back on Monday. Excellent work!

Ray

Soooooo was everyone happy with their results? I certainly have some more work to do but I'm more than pleased with the way my knife did. Gotta strive to make each one better!

Heck no ,Im a complete failure ,But not for long ! I think Ive tracked down my softness issue to a lack of complete hardness achieved , rather than a tempering issue , as I was so self convinced it had to be .I recently quenched 1084 in water and I now believe that its my Quenching that has to be improved . Ill have some entirely NEW results soon .

Eric,

That's great ! Make another one of those test blades and send it to me, we'll test it again.

Nick,

You're welcome. I'm sure Eli will agree that we're both happy to do it ....
