Step Drills

Where can I buy step drills for steels? I know Knifekits sells them but doesnt recommend them for steels. Any suggestions? thanks.

can goto lowes/home depot and they have something like 8 steps or 16 steps (something like that). Think the best way maybe to use a stop washer and 2 drill bits.

These drills work VERY nicely. They are complex to sharpen, and so they need to be used judiciously. Replacement is probably the answer. So, for handle materilas they will last indefinitely.

Use them on steel? Go ahead! But go slow and with proper lubrication you will extend the life as long as any other steel drill, but once it's dull it's done. You need to justify the costs. The second step, without an angle, is not cut at the best angle for metals.

I own those multi-step drills for houshold use. They are a brilliant miracle-tool for soft or thin materials, but I see no uses in knifemaking.
