hey guys, where do most you put your makers mark? is it on the actual blade or do you do it on the ricasso. most of my knives dont have room on the ricasso and was wondering what yall guys do? i have a mark its just my initials nothing fancy i think its about 5/8"x 1/2". i havent started doing it yet do to the fact of the size of it i would have to put it on the blade.
thanks dustin |

You put it where you have to put it, where ever you can. On some of my larger knives that do have a ricasso I usually put it there. On the smaller knives I usually do some kind of saber grind and try to put the mark on the flat part of the grind as near to the middle of the blade as possible or where ever I think it will look best. Having stencils in more than one size helps quite a bit (I have two sizes).
From the way you asked your question I get the impression that you may be stamping your blades rather than electro-etching your logo. If so, I would encourage you to look into electro-etching. It's much less stressful on the blade itself, easier to have more than one size, and you can put a useful amount of information on a stencil. Just having your initials on the blade is pretty near useless in terms of helping you sell knives or helping you become known as a knife maker. It helps a lot to have your name and maybe your state in your logo. Then people can google you from any where in the world if they want to try to get a knife from you... |

Most of us have them made by Ernie Grospich. He's easy to google and easy to work with. He'll do the art work for you and make a whole sheet of stencils. He's very affordable too ...

Just got my logo stencils from Ernie and he is the man! $56 shipped for 12 stencils. This is what my logo looks like with his stencil and a Marking Method's 300 electro-etcher. https://www.dropbox.com/s/blxv3a0h08mzr3g/DSC04168.JPG
