The w/e of November 6th and 7th ant Trackrock capgrounds and stables. www.trackrock.com Should be e real good turnout this time. Hopefully it will have dried out by then. They have excellent facilities reguardless even if we get more rain. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Mark __________________ I am smiling |

Hi Mark,
Thanks for taking the time to post TrackRock. John and I always enjoy making the trip up (and from south, flat, Georgia I do mean UP) to Trackrock. I know you guys think the best thing about Trackrock is the smithing and ginding but actually it is the mountains that just fill the eyes with their beauty. John and I are looking forward to it!! |

Head Count
All of you guys planning on attending, we need a head (mouth) count so we can better plan for the saturday lunch. THe wives put a lot of time and effort into feeding all the participants at these hammer-ins and do an excellent job. In order to be able to feed the group they need to know how many will be there. This includes family members.
The group gets larger every event and it does take some planning so let us know now and you won't be left out. email: crex68@yahoo.com ps - Joan, you and John are coming I hope. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 5-J |

Hey Carl,
We wouldn't miss it for the world. I'm just about getting use to driving in the mountains from these trips and the thought of the "upward" trek doesn't cause me to hyper-ventilate anymore. Tell Mrs. Carl to let me know what I need to bring to help out with the meals. |

Thanks Folks, I'm writing as fast as I can.
Joan - you're welcome to bring the same thing you did last time if you like. I'll get you an approximate head count by middle of next week. Gotta work out the bowls, cups, utensils, etc towards the last minute. Glad you and John are coming. Has John considered making a token for the board? I got room. Email me for the particulars. Jamey - got you and Leila down. Robert - Welcome to the Ga. Custom Knifemaker's Guild Forum! Find me when you get to TR and we'll make it a formal introduction. Glad you can make it. Got other educators that will be present and forging so welcome aboard. Bring some of your finished pieces for us to oggle over. Still need to hear from the rest of you guys that are coming and plan to eat Saturday, by this weekend if possible. This stuff does take a little planning you know. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 5-J |

Up an coming "smith"
Hey guys,
Look at this, the first smithing creation, of Nelson Simmons. Nelson is the son of Ken Simmons. Ken and Nelson were in North Carolina with John & myself this weekend for the NCCKG meeting. Under the guidance of his dad, Ken, Journeyman Tim Scholl, NCCKG VP Bill Pate, and Wayne Whitley many of the guys got to try their hand at this. Ken, John, and I are most proud of Nelson and how his piece turned out. ![]() He took a railroad spike, put it in a jig built by Bill Pate to make the twists in the handle, ![]() worked hard on the getting the shape of the blade, ![]() and the result was well worth it. I dubbed this the "persian spike" and the name seem to stick. Several of the men there were impressed by Nelson's knife style and I expect we shall see more of these around. I think both Ken and Nelson will be at TrackRock so you should get to see this piece "in the flesh". |

OK Folks,
It's time! We asked at the last guild meeting what you wanted to see the way of demos at the next meeting (December at Jamey's house). I've not heard from any of you and time is getting short. I will be very busy the rest of November with the Hammer-in at Trackrock, vacation, and holidays. You'd better speak up if you have a special interest. That being said, you're all invited to come up to Blairsville for the 5th Trackrock Hammerin. Lots of talented folks show up for this event, some you know personally some you should want to meet. Come on up and enjoy yourself. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 5-J |

Got reservations at the BestWestern in Blairsville. Can't wait to meet you guys.
I will bring a couple of my latest 'grindin's', but might not show anybody. When I see some of your work, it makes me want to "lay-off two weeks, then quit". Do I need to bring anything in the way of food, or would a few bucks be helpful? Just let me know. See-Ya on Saturday.....................Robert (a.k.a. Roosko) |

Hi, Roosko-----Glad to hear that you are coming to Trackrock. I see where you make your sheaths so we will have to get together and compare notes. Hoping that Karla Van Horne will again bless us with her presence. When it comes to leather craft, she is as good as it gets. As usual I will welcome all to my shop for mini-seminars on sheath making. Your input would be welcomed, big time! ---Sandy---

Robert,
That's funny! I visited your site, you should be the inspiration some of the newer guys need to get them to pay more attention to detail. We will have a donation jar set out for the Saturday chili lunch to help defray some of the expenses for that. No other charges but you are responsible for the rest of your meals. There is limited vending on the campgrounds (coke machine) so bring whatever you need in the way of snacks and drinks to get you through the other parts of the day. As Sandy said, looking forward to meeting you in person. Drive carefully and have a safe trip. The North Georgia Mountains should be in full dress all this week so the drive should be colorful. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 5-J |
