Hello!
I have been an amature knife maker for years, making knives for myself and a few close friends, but since retiring from my old job, I've gotten more serious about it. Now, since I just sold a knife to my first real customer, I guess I'm a "professional". I'd post a picture, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet! Since my city frowns on having a coal forge in my back yard, I buy blades and billets from what I believe are reputable suppliers. The one I just sold was a real nice blade from K&G Supply. If someone will walk me through the process, I'll post some pictures. AL |

Will the City allow propane forges? There are more than one way to skin a cat.

I've been reading up on those, they look interesting.
My wife has a glass bead kiln that heats up to over 2000 degrees, might be another option for some things like heat treating. I know "purists" think only a coal forge is correct to get the best blades, and I don't have all of the necessary tools to do forging, so I'll likely have to continue purchasing billets and blades for a while. Later it may be a case of "what they don't know won't hurt then." |
