What tha? What is that and what have you done with Mr. Randall's body?
That is a strange piece... the stamp seems like earliest Solingen but everything else is ET. I know Randall reshaped some old Solingen blades in the 1980s into spear points, and there were kit knives with some good handles.. but this is out of the park. I like it though. I have a Solingen 14 Randall Vietnam, and pictures of the one my brother carried in MACVsog missions. I might post them to make a "Solingen" line... but only after the story of this knife is told. Thanks for showing |

Description
Summary: this is a really neat knife that was originally out of the late Tom Clinton's collection. Possibly a "KIT" knife. It's a Solingen #14 "Attack" with a 7-1/4" blade and SS guard (engraved) that was rehandled at some point in the past. (no clue who did the rehandle... the silver solder on the guard is perfect!) The blade is shop etched "Kai Jensen" on the back side, the back side bolts engraved with the initials K, A & I. Guard Engraving: ME TU CAVETO: "You Beware" SEMPER IN PROMPTU: "Always Be Ready" The knife is in excellent condition: light / lengthwise scratches on the blade, and a bit of peppering near the Randall Made ? Solingen Germany trademark. The sheath is without any markings. Photos of the sheath are accurate, the sheath is in decent shape except for the damage at the belt loop on the front side. Stitching is tight, the knife / sheath fit is perfect. 9 photos for review ? as shown, a new embroidered Randall Knives carry case is included. This is a totally cool rehandle with the Vietnam Era Solingen blade, no clue who the original owner was nor do I have any information as to who did the rehandle. Not many besides the RMK shop could pull off a solder job like this; that said, I do not know for sure if they were the ones who did the work. |

I saw that blade on the other forum and I love it. I'm not crazy about the over-size bolts but I can get over that. I don't understand if Jack was calling it a spear point blade but it isn't. It is a humpback....unless I'm seeing things. Good for you Bill for catching that one.

The nicest kit knife I've ever seen:
Came up on e-bay a number of years ago for $350 buy-it-now. I got lucky that day. Was made by an elderly gentleman in Hawaii who also collected. Sold by his grand daughter after he passed. |

Seems like I could have bought that knife last year from Richard in California, who I bought several "KIT" knives from.......

Ron, that is another coup for you from your deep-bottomed trunk. Inexhaustible supply of cool Randalls.
Ronnie, re" "spearpoint" Solingen blades: In the 1980s-90s (?) the shop apparently reshaped some Solingen model 14 and/or 15 blades that were left over at the shop after the Solingen option knives were discontinued. These were either re-ground into more of a "spear point," or perhaps they were originally intended to have teeth cut, whatever. Gaddes referred to them (I'm at work and don't have book) and they appear occasionally. This looks like an example that could have been more recently reshaped and handled. Anyway, this is generally what I was referring to. Last edited by Jacknola; 03-01-2016 at 10:34 AM. |

Oh yeah Jack I'm very familiar with the re-ground Soligen blades. I remember when they were readily available from the shop. But I'm confused as to whether or not you are calling this Mod. 14 above a spear point blade. To me it clearly is a humpback.

Thanks, Jack. I don't have the knife anymore. It was sold to buy more Model 3's. It went to Miles and Richard is a friend of his, so Bill is likely right about seeing it with him.

The latest Solingen 14 blade
It took a little longer to arrive, thanks to the blade show, but well worth the wait!
Love the Mudbone sheath with the pronounced "Hump" |

Another one added
Nice one from the 1990's. Fossil Walrus and nickel silver with a beautiful Greg Gutcher sheath.
