Meeting Locations, Topics and Scholarship Knives
I have found out that the VP of the GACKG is in charge of scheduling meetings, scheduling demo's at the meetings, and finding someone to make the scholarship knive to be auctioned off. I thought it would be nice to start a thread to discuss these things.
If you are interested in hosting a Ga Knifemakers Guild meeting, please speak up here or e-mail me at ( andy at fiddlebackforge dot com ). If you are interested in providing a knife to be auctioned off for the scholarship fund, please contact me. Please post some topics you'd like to see discussed. Is there some part of the knifemaking process that you are having trouble with? Please lets hash out what we need to see. Here are some topics I thought of off the top of my head: 1. Sharpening 2. Knifemaking, the business side 3. Um. Now I have gone and run out of ideas. I really need your help with this. Thanks!!! |

Number 3 is the kicker......and I have trouble with all aspects of the process everyday. Maybe we can talk House into doing a demo on her antler carving. We can corner her at TR and get her to join the Guild then tell her part of the initiation is a demo....comes with the tattoo and everything.
Seriously though, #2 would be a good one. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Hi guys I got a few ideas since you asked. 1 is the only good one
1. history on some knives. 2. grind type. 3. grain size. |

All good suggestions. We have grinding demo's and forging demo's pretty often, so you should be set with that after a couple of meetings.
It might be nice to learn a bit about metalurgy, including grain size. I could always learn more about this. I really consider myself to be a neophite in this regard. |

Andy, think you'll find the "shanghi" approach more effective.

Guys, I have Scott doing a demo on welding a stick tang, Wayne doing a friction folder demo, and myself doing a sharpening demo, or a 'business of knifemaking discussion'. I find those last two options to be the low point of the meeting. Anyone have a skill, or tip they want to demo for us?
