I really don't understand any "tender" spots and I support Britt 100% in doing this. I know Jimmy would not be offended and those that are need to take a pill....

A copy of is a copy of, but if that's what someone wants to do, then sure why not ? The copies of Lovelace knives are so far removed from what he does they show it in the selling prices because of what is made. Frank

I don't have any problem with Britt, or anyone else, making a copy of Lile's knife. What I'm concerned about is that I don't what Britt to have any problem with it either. There is one big difference between copying a Loveless drop point and a Rambo knife: no one made a movie based on a Loveless drop point so they aren't likely to be concerned about protecting their intellectual property.
As others have said, most of the problem (if there's going to be a problem) will come from referring to it as a Rambo knife more than the design. Just be careful about that and, if Lile's family doesn't care, then no one else should either. And by all means, do as has been suggested and mark the knife big, bold, and clear ......... |

I want to thank EVERYONE who has posted kind words
about my project and myself.THANK YOU!!!!.just about all of you i look up to in one way or another. i have spoken to Dave Higher today on the phone(Jimmy Lile's best friend ,worked for Lile) and he gave me his blessing and Mrs.Lile's blessing. I posted my link out of excitement and passion and never dreamed it would meet such kindness and protection by people i look up to.i am no Ray Rogers or Andy Garrett or Andy Sharp,I'm just a fan who loves knives(this one a lot). i'm not trying to start a "busness of rambo knives"( i mean i'm not trying to be the next big thing) or be the next lile(i wont be).i might even fail at this.BUT i will fail at something i love and have dreamed about my whole life.and i would be okay with that. and even if i never sell one knife,i will sit back with a smile on my face holding something i love. I have listened to all the advise on this forum and learned whats important.MARK THE BLADE...I will... so,i know we have not met but i am thankful for you all( i mean that with all my heart). britt |

If you have Mrs. Lile's blessing, then more power to you. That's all I asked in the first place was if you had asked. Even if it's not legally required most knifemakers will at least ask before copying another's work.
I wish you the best of luck with your project. Like others have said, I would be careful with the use of the word "Rambo" even in your advertising. That's a whole different ballgame. |

Britt, make the knife, enjoy the learning and believe me, a lawsuit is not likely to show up. Yeah, forget the Rambo anywhere. DH
