Finished
Thanks guys sorry not to get back to you sooner. The handle scales are granit from a kitchen bench top and I cut and shaped with the trusty 4inch angle grinder. The finer polishing I do with a air grinder with some special pads I sourced from china.I had some concerns about this material like the weight and how brittle it might be so drilled out a lot of the steel behind the handle scales and left the blade thicker to keep the balance more like a normal knife.Overall I am very happy with the knife and also used a new material in the pouch getting some emu skin leather and just love the affect I got with that on the sheath.I dropped the knife when almost finished and it did not break so it may be stronger than I thought. Here area couple of pics of the sheath.

Nicely done Kim! Your sheath work is very good.
Yeah the ol' drop test will tell you alot, just a tough way to learn sometimes. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Very cool! You could make a nice set of kitchen knives, those would see work but nothing to rough I would think.

Nice work.
Bertie Rietveld in South Africa uses stone frequently in his high-end daggers. Check out his site at www.rietveldknives.com Des Horn in Cape Town often uses meteorite for his exquisite folders. Check him out at www.deshorn.com I guess the meteorite slabs would be very thin, so as not to make the handle too heavy - metreorite is mainly iron, I think. |

Kitchen Knife...
So some wanted to see a kitchen knife so here you go..
I am looking at mabey doing some to go with the stone bench tops the guy makes that I get the granite from.I really like working with granite this one uses hidden pins so I dont need to drill right through making it easier. Cheers KIM |

Very nice Kim. Are you considering doing sets?
I sell quite a few chef sets (5 knives). Never done a stone handled set. Did one in corian, but it wasn't as popular as some of my high grade wood sets. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
