New Info on "Thunderforged" damascus

Sitting here talking with Terry Hearn on Paltalk, and with his permission I'm posting what he has discovered on the heat treating of the Thunderforged damascus. Terry and Jason Jacks have worked out a heat treat method that Terry tells me works well for the Thunderforged steel. Here it is........
Normalize the steel when you get it. (Terry says he has had some pieces that were dead soft, and other he could not drill)
Next, Harden from 1500F, and quench in hydraulic oil (this oil is heavier than veg or peanut oils, and will quench a bit slower which will prevent cracking). Next, temper at 300F (this is not really a temper, but rather a stress relieving process) If I remember correctly Terry does a multiple temper (which I would recommend too).
The key to this stuff is to do just as Terry and Jason have done. EXPERIMENT TO FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU, IN YOUR SHOP.
I'm still a little concerned with the company putting out heat treat info as they do, but there is nothing I can do about that (I can't impose my morals on others). So go to it! And as folks find solutions to problems, post them in the forums for all to share!
Many thanks to Terry for this information!!
