Spring Guild Meeting
The Spring meeting of the Georgia Guild will be held at the shop of Wayne Hensley on May 9th. The meeting will run as normal with a Board meeting at 8:00 and the member meeting at 9:30. Demonstrations will follow the member meeting along with lunch, the drawing for the John Poythress Scholarship knife, donated by Stephan Fowler (pictures will follow), and the "Iron in the Hat" raffle.
Wayne Hensley is going to show us how to wrap a handle with cord and Dennis Bradley is going to show us how to file work the back of some knife blades. These should be two very good demonstrations. Charlie and I are going to bring our Rockwell Hardness tester, so if you want to see how your heat treating is going bring a piece of steel or blade with a flat spot on it and we will check it out. Watch for up dates and check the Georgia Guild site for directions to Wayne's Shop. You can reply here to let Wayne know if you are planning on attending so he can plan for lunch, or use the contact information below. Wayne G. Hensley 2924 Glad Dale Drive S.E. Conyers, GA 30094 USA (770) 483-8938 (770) 483-5782 rebwayhe@bellsouth.net Don't forget to bring something for the Iron in the Hat and a chair if you want to sit down is handy. Hope to see you there. What? No sheath? I'll sheath it, if the winner agrees to put an additional $25 in the JP Scholarship fund.
I have been asked by a few (at TR) about casting pewter guards. If the board and Wayne are up with that, I'll bring the stuff to do one if there's time. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H Last edited by Crex; 04-08-2009 at 06:16 AM. |

Me too Carl. We only have two demonstrations as it stands. I was going to fill in with some Rockwell hardness testing, but something has come up and it looks like I might not be able to make the meeting. I won't know for sure until it gets closer.

Doesn't have anything to do with keys and locks does it?

No....but that problem hasn't been solved yet either. It is going to be though. The other problem is a conflict with dates and it will be settled by my boss, known locally as "Yes Mam". It could go either way at this point.

Hey Stephan, not a hit on your leather work, just didn't see one in the picture. That offer stands for anyone donating a knife to the scholarship fund.
If I don't wind up going out of town at the last minute, I will bring equipment and materials to do a pewter guard casting for those interested. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Looks like I'm going to be able to make it. Just gotta make sure I get back home for Mother's Day. That or maybe a little room behind someone's shop to pitch a tent.

I hope that everyone has let Wayne know if they are going to be there. Don't forget the stuff for the iron in the hat. And $ for the raffle of the Fowler knife. I tried to take a picture with the sheath included and think that I will just let Stephen's picture stand. I couldn't get a good shot of the sheath and hammon at the same time and just gave up. It does come with a nice sheath that fits the style of the knife very well. Wish I was going to get a shot at it.

I hope we always have new faces at Georgia Custom Knifemaker Guild Meetings. We have all different kinds of memberships and maker members that are still working on their knives to be reviewed. Pick your poison or just come and enjoy the crowd. Either way you will be hooked. It is a great meeting with lots of information and some of the best people you will meet anywhere. If you like handmade knives it is the place to be. There will be people there that have yet to make their first knife to some that have been at it for nearly ever. They all love to share and talk knives. Wayne does a great job of hosting the meeting and I hate that I'm going to miss this one.
