Really nice knives . I especially like the Pinned Stag .
Price is $4,500 for that one . Doubt he will get anywhere near that $ for that knife , but who knows ?

The leather handle version sold for $763.75 at auction last month. In the same auction, the stag handle version sold for $881.25

WOW , talk about a HIGH mark up . That's about 511% or 5.11X price paid for the pinned stag.

What auction house ? Do not think it was Ebay ?

What he paid is irrelevant to the collector value. He got them at a very good price, so good for him. Whether he will get what he is asking I don't know.

Joe, these knives in Clarence Moore sheaths for that amount? If so, that was a heck of a deal I think, huh?

Yup.

Moore made sheaths for this model longer or at least had a few available at the shop than say some of the Bowie's, as it was not popular even back then. So, these knives aren't necessarily "first year" production because I believe a Moore sheath was available for a few years.

That being said, here is what easily could be a first/second year piece.

Joe's reference knife on E-bay (see bad pictures above) is first year, maybe first six months. Key is what looks to be the 1/8-in leather spacers (pictures are bad, need close ups)... those were superseded by thinner leather, then fiber pretty quickly. This is backed up by the appearance of the flutes on the collar and cap and some other features. I posted my opinion on the progression of spacers etc. on early bowies and toothys in the dating a bowie line. These all are nice.

Sam, anytime Auburn beats Alabama it is luck.

Thanks Joe and Jack for the info on the toothpick and sheaths.
That's a heck of a knife too. I like the old style wide spaced hand grooved collars and caps.
Jack, I assume you are pulling for Georgia Saturday?
I gotta be careful being a FSU fan in my family, I have 2 Sister in Laws and a niece and nephew that are Auburn alums. Needless to say I laid low a few years back when FSU broke the SEC dominance string by beating Auburn that year.
Enjoy.
