Mission statement ?

The topic of a mission statement has come up several times. I think it would be a good thing, if we can decide on one. Here's what I've been thinking...

"The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths are essentially an educational group, dedicated to the free exchange of smithing information, and assisting it's members in forming support groups and contacts with other metalsmithing enthusiasts."

Yeah it's 1:00 AM and I'm still up. Working on a website and uploading the files now so here I am.

Know I'm prejudiced, but how about "and related crafts."
Otherwise I think it's pretty succinct.

Wild Rose Trading Co - Handcrafted Knife Sheaths

The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. It celebrates the knife it houses.

I like that, "and related crafts." There's a lot more to metalsmithing than just metalsmithing--at least there is in the knifemaking end of it--which is the most significant contingent.

O.K. Try this one:

"The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths are primarily an educational group, dedicated to the free exchange of smithing information, and related crafts. Furthermore, assisting it's members in forming support groups and contacts with other metalsmithing enthusiasts."

PS. my wife, my editor, says take out the comma after information - and how about "like-minded enthusiasts"

Mainly I figure if the wording is a little looser, than anyone with an interest in our interelated crafts/arts won't feel shy about joining - even those on the fringe who may have something to offer. I mean the name does say metalsmith and should stay that way, so the purpose of the mission statement is to explain(?) what the group has to offer.

BTW they used to call folks with an alternative bent "Fringies" in Seattle back in the late 60's/70's. Has a nice ring.

All right - I'll say no more!

The preview page looks very good, except, who said that, the blue on blue is a little hard to read (I run my monitor 19" @ 1024x 768 which makes everything smaller)
so maybe brighten the light blue a shade or two?

"Furthermore, assisting it's members in forming local support groups and contacts with like minded enthusiasts."

The above is a sentance fragment. It's missing it's subject (or both it's object and it's verb, depending on how you read it.)

Here's a suggested fix:

"The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths are primarily an educational group. We are dedicated to the free exchange of smithing information and related crafts, and to assisting our members in forming local support groups and contacts with like minded enthusiasts."

Ok, enough grammer class - let's get back to recess!
