Moderators Lounge
Alex and All,
I know this is just throwing more stuff on the heap that you must be dealing with now but I received a tip from Martyn and thought I'd bring it to the table. Set up a "moderators lounge" away from the major traffic where we can discuss situations, have a cold one, whatever. Something like the advertising board. It may sound like duplication but it would separate the advertising/cash business from issues we may want to discuss among ourselves as moderators. What's your opinion? Tim |

It would also be a good place to move a problem thread, or post, rather than deleting outright. Where it could be discussed, and dealt with. Just a thought.

Tim, moderators forums are usually invisible to everyone but moderators or admins. They are not forums that can be seen, read or replied to unless you are a moderator - usually most members don't even know they exist.
I actually assumed there already was one (obviously there isnt ), but i know the mods appreciate the facility on the BB's I admin. It gives them a place to discuss the most diplomatic solutions to all sorts problematic situations, to strategise publicity campaigns etc. away from the main thrust of the board. On the unfortunate occasions when it's necessary to moderate a post or even a member, some moderators can feel isolated. It's actually quite a hard thing to do. This is where advice from other moderators is invaluable. It also means that your course of action is tempered through the eyes of other moderators too. I've found both moderators and members appreciate that. The forum though, is generally of no concern to the members and is probably best kept invisible. Hmmmm. Good points by all. I'm inclined to say the same. But......
Alex has addressed this in the past and will give you his personal viewpoint soon. There are always two sides to a story, and..... there are always exceptions to the rule. I've said nothing and piqued your interest further! Coop |

Right Martin,
I hope nobody misunderstood the intent. I placed it here for a general concensus opinion. Like Martyn stated, it's a good place to come to for advice as well as to cool off should the need arise. If it would make more sense to move this to the other board, let's do. Tim |

If you go this route, I would highly recommend secret hand signals.

Bob,
Thanks for the enlightenment. It's good to know that there's some cavalry out there when and if the alarm goes off. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have to hesitate coming in with sabres drawn should (knock-on-wood) the need arise. Tim I'm gonna miss the lava lamps --oh well. |

One of the underlying values we have tried to maintain on the CKD is that the community is so positive and compatable, we have not had a need to discuss things behind the scenes. I have banned maybe three or four people and they were all non-knife trolls who just happened to stumble upon the forums. I think I have closed two threads, and one banning and thread closing just happened today. No need for troll baiting - just send them packing

The Dog's got this one. I have never had to delete a thread yet, most times it's just a move to a more appropriate venue.

I trashed one in the Computer Center forum yesterday. Sometimes I just watch these things for a while to see what happens, other times I jump in there and rip them out by the roots -- no questions, no explanations. It all depends.

You guys are my heros!
I don't even bother to check other forums if I have every seen what you are talking about in the threads. There just is no place for it. Keep up the good work! Bob Sigmon |
