Left Hand, Single Offside Ring Hilt, Dagger

This one is going to be the center piece of my display at the mini knife show tomorrow. It's a 16th Century Left Hand, Single Offside Ring Dagger. The Blade is 10 1/2" x 1" welded cable. The ring hilt was made from a single piece of welded cable. The "scent stopper" pommel nut was turned from a piece of welded cable that was left in the round. The handle is made from a piece of holly. The whole point of this knife was to be a test bed for this type of hilt.

A beautiful dagger. The hilt looks great, and the proportions are just perfect!

Ken,

This is called a left hand dagger for a reason. It was held in the left hand with the sword in the right, by 16th and 17th century dualist's. The ring provides some protection to the hand when a sword blade sides down the knife blade and isn't stopped by the cross guard. The knife is held with the thumb held against the back side of the blade (opposite from the ring). This places the ring straight above the front of the knuckles.

Beautiful !

Its gorgeous. I spent a while thinking whether or not its a "Mini." Doesn't look anything other than a beautifully executed full-sized dagger, with all the extras !! Congrats. I'm sure that piece will get some conversations going at the show. Jason.

Very nice work, something about the overall simplicity, mixed with the damascus just appeals to me in the dagger!!

Thanks for the look

Thank You all,

This was a fun if somewhat fiddly knife to make. But it has been well recieved so far.
