Schrade-Out of Business!

I just picked up on this awful news yesterday...
Sad story indeed. Schrade was like baseball and apple pie...American Icons.

Unhappily, this is a sign of the times...

This is sad news indeed. From what I understand, they were trying to compete against the latest technology in design and manufacturing (both here and abroad) with very old technology. They just didn't see a need to modernize. If that is true, it bit them. Obviously, there are other issues involved as well. That is the one that sticks out in my mind.

Schrade Demise

The last Schrade I bought was a Clip-Hangar for $26. The blade looked like it was stamped out of a coffee can lid. The blade wiggled in the handle. Schrade hired an MBA to run the company and his enlightened approach was to cut cost by making a cheap piece of junk. I have had personal experience with these know-it-all 40-something business wonders who have no understanding of the concepts of pride, craftsmanship and loyalty to your workers. The saddest part of this story is that the company executives probably paid themselves a nice bonus and will be working to screw up another company within a few months.

Been there, done that, got the pink slip to prove it. Ditto everything Quenchcrack said about MBA's. They're taught that people are unimportant, products are unimportant, quality is unimportant. If you can put together an impressive set of numbers - even if they're based on lies - that's all that counts.
