Improve youtube videos with some code

If you add &fmt=18 to the end of the video URL on Youtube the video quality will improve. I have not been a big fan of thier compression of my videos. After you add the characters to the video you will then notice a hyperlink below the video to "watch in normal quality". They obviousely do that to reduce the bandwidth used.

Here is a video I shot with my Canon Supershot S100 that I uploaded. Notice the tree limbs pixalating real bad.

Video in compressed mode

Now here the same video with the &fmt=18 to the end of the URL.

Un-compressed video

Alot of good videos are shot with cell phone video and this will be a big help when trying to watch them.

Some of the videos do have a "watch in high quality" hyperlink. If they don't now you know how to fix that.

In some cases, &fmt=6 works better

Bill

So you just type that at the end of the link before you watch the movie?

Hi Don,

Glad to see your feeling better. All is going well here. I kind of took some time off from knifemaking to get some things taken care of around here and to pursue my other love of fishing. Starting to get a bit colder around here and the leaves are changing. Fishing season will end soon. I've been sneaking into the shop here and there and have a few knives in the works. I'll be sure and post a few photos when they are done.

Take care........

Bill

PS....Canada is still there. They like to start sending us their cold air about this time of year.

I'm looking forward to seeing your latest work, Bill. Mexico is still there too, along with the hot air.

Hi Guys,
How does one Copy a Video down to your Harddrive,? Can it be Done.?
I only have a Dailup Line, and to watch some videos takas ages, as well as very Start Stop.
Steve Lindsay has some very nice Engraving ones, and I would like to copy them, so that i can watch them on my TV.
Here is a link.

I have found out that adding this code will improve just about any video that can be viewed online.
