To Buy or Build a forge?
Hello Folks,
quick question, I can buy a 50-70 year old portable military forge, complete with hand crank blower still in the original crate for $150.00 CDN approx $100.00 USD or build a brake drum forge. The artillary forge is in perfect condition never used. Just looking for some opinions on it and does any one know anything about these type of forges? It is portable I can throw in the back of the truck no problem . . . Thanx in advance, Sean McCulloch |

first all welcome to the forum Most handcrank blowers are expensive and are hard to come by.so you are getting a full package deal at a decent price.

Hi Stephen,
well here is the deal as I know it, there are seven of these forges, still in the original crates they came out of an old US army base up in Labrador, they are in North Sydney NS, I will be over in North Sydney tommorow with my digital camera. I'll take some pics and post here on the site. You good folks can determine if they are worth it . . . Hope that helps mate and thanx, Sean |

Update
I went over to look at the forge today all I can say is WOW. There are 7 of them in the original crates nailed shut, I pried one of them open and this is the description:
Made by Canadian Blower & Forge Co. The fire box is about 2 1/2 foot wide 4 foot long with a hinged lid Its constructed out of 1/4 steel (heavy lift) Olive Green in colour Come with 4 extendable metal legs blower pipe and a Canadian Blower and Forge hand crank blower. The flippin things are pristine, they still have packing grease on them . . . The Sides of the forge have a latch hing on them to lower them for inserting our metal into the fire And on the lid is written something like "Fill fire pit with clay or sand before using" Just dang impressive all around . . . Gimme your thoughts on this thing if you could folks . . . Of course I forgot my camera but i am buying one of these beauties anyway I will post the pic of it . . . Sean McCulloch |

Nice find. Too bad they are so far away. It woud be great to start out with a mint one. If the company(CB&F) still exists, maybe they would like to have one for there showroom.

As far as I can figure CB&F closed it doors decades ago at least as that entity. There is a company called Canadian Blower and CB&F was a subsidury of Buffalo Forge.
As it stands now I have a 75 Anvil from CB&F and soon I'll have that field forge, great company in my eyes. . . Sean |
