Buddy this last photo is my favorite background. Besides the back of the guard where you have your red dot I would like to see just a little more light on the front of the guard as well. Man I love this knife.
It is fun to watch all the critique going on here in the photography forum lately. |

Wow.
That is one spectacular knife. As Mike said the last background works the best. Then again, I can't help but wonder how it would look using just one swirl, from the original background, right under the blade/guard junction, fading off to dark tones. Then again, I could be nutz. __________________ Just say NO to knife abuse. |

Buddy,
I have to say the burgundy backround is my fav as well. I was wearing a robe this morning just that color. The only thing that I see is in the detail and the lighting on the guard which you already mentioned. In the previous image there was (I thought) a little more contrast. Black was darker, plus the gold could use a touch more color saturation. I think you definitely have a winner with this photo. Great job. |

Thanks all. No, that picture is not 'a winner', though it would be OK for some applications. It could be a lot better in Oh, so many ways.
Lighting the front of the guard is problematic because of the low side light I use to give contrast to the engraving. It naturally creates a very dense shadow on the opposite side of the guard. In light of recent discussions about monitors and the dark to light scale - I have to say that some of dark areas mentioned show ample variations in shading and the lower edge of the guards are plainly visible - on my monitor. I have a feeling that the difference is I 'calibrate' my monitor and shade the screen from direct lighting around it (room/desk lights). Of the two, calibration makes the most difference. I could certainly be mistaken about this, but it might be a factor. Here's the next evolution of the above picture. This one looks pretty good to me but I do have one final idea in case this one doesn't bear up under scrutiny. |

Buddy, I like the composition better on this photo and the extra detail you have shown on the left image, very nice.

This last one is my fave, too. The background is just that. Non-demanding, and the insets work for me.
Loving the lighting on the core knife. Coop |

Awesome job on that last shot Buddy I have to agree, the darker back ground is a much better choice. Thanks for sharing!
