A couple projects Ive been working on (Lots of Pictures)
Here are some projects I've been working on. I must say up front I am very impatient (lazy) and am trying to work on that. So you can see my finishes arent where I would like them. But I mainly make these to test them out and put them through a test process (bending, shopping 2 x4, 2 inch rope chop, ect.) to see how much abuse I can put them through.
These are my 2nd, 3rd and 4th knife I've made. I also started making the leather sheaths as well as the kydex. The picture with the blanks are what I just cut out and are at HT. Waiting on them and will post once Im done.
The first knife is Imistag handle, 1/8" O-1. I heat treated it myself using Ray's advice. It turned out very durable and a sharp scandi grind. I ended up cleaning the bevels up a lot on it that's not pictured. I then made a leather sheath for it.
The next knife is 1/8" 1080 steel with black/green linen micarta handle and stainless pins with an OD green Kydex sheath.
The last knife is 1/8" 1095 steel with Cocobolo handle and brass pins. The leather sheath shown was later dyed and treated with Neatsfoot oil to match the other sheath.
Im trying to hammer down the basics and if I have time I do some cosmetic stuff to them (for instance I put an etch in a couple of them that is hard to make out in the pictures) But for now I am trying to focus on making a sharp durable blade. And my job/schedule doesnt allow for much shop time at all.
Thanks for any criticism. It's appreciated and used.
