2009 TKCA Central Texas Knife Show Dates
The dates and location have been set for the 2009 TKCA Central Texas Knife Show are March 13-14, 2009 in Round Rock, Texas. It will be held in the same location as last year, The Williamson County Conference Center at the Wingate Hotel. More specific details will follow when the contract is signed with the hotel.
The show next year will be only on Friday and Saturday....no sitting around all day Sunday twiddling our thumbs waiting for the show to end. Please help spread the word. We need to sell out all 100 tables next years and also draw in a huge crowd to prove that Texas knifemakers do know how to host a quality knife show. We'll post contact information a little later on where you can reserve your table. All your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

The more I look at it, the more I like the show dates. I might even be able to have enough stock around to get a table!
I'm sitting in a Reno airport trying to stay awake right now. I'll shoot you a call later today when I'm back in TX. |

Sheathmaking talk by Paul Long, sharpening clinic by Gayle Bradley, wire inlay and a couple other topics I don't remember, cable damascus welding, parkerizing, Blade Sports cutting competition.
Lots of cool stuff. |

Wade, what Don said...as well, we have a filework demo scheduled. Also Chuck Ward will be set up again taking pictures for the makers. We're moving the Henry Rabke award (best mammoth ivory folder) from the Spirit of Steel Show to the TKCA show. We'll also have several new catagories for makers to enter their work... still to be determined. Door prizes will be available too.
A good list of suppliers too. Texas Knifemakers Supply, R.W. Wilson, Ron Burke...maybe more. Probably more stuff but that's all I can remember right now. Spread the word. We definitely want the have a sell-out and pack the house. |

I think attendance came out almost the same as last year, but I don't really remember. I'll have to look back at the stats James sent out.
Lots of people came out and braved the wind and cold to watch the cutting demo and forging demo. The hot forge was quite popular in a 46*F 20 mph wind! I have all the cards and am entering them into the computer so we have an electronic database to use for show fliers and such for next time. I was really hoping for a lot more visitors. Gas prices and such cut in quite a bit. Based on a lot of forum chatting, a lot of people were staying home due to economics. If we maintained the same head count even with a lot of people who have been before but couldn't make it this time, hopefully attendance will increase significantly next round! Thanks, Gene and Don.
So, even in the downturn we at least probably came out a little ahead, with hopefully the seed money for next year's show. Like last year. Thanks for the report, my friends. |
