Let's do something together!!
Let's generate some interest here by building a knife together. Or better yet, a set with a hunter, folder, and sheaths. A pass-around set of projects.
Please volunteer your name and which knife you'd like to work on. Maybe which areas of the knife you prefer to work on too. We'll set a limit of March 1st, 2008 in order to give room for all the pass-arounds. Man, with the talent we have in TKCA, we can really make some beautiful knives together. We'll put the set up for sale at $30,000. Then we'll decide what to do with the money.I'm kidding here. We'll set a price after they're done. I'll start the list. 1. Don Robinson- Double blade Texas Toothpick. Work in progress photography, folder blades, liners, bushings, pins and screws. Just the blades and liners with bolsters. Somebody else do the scales, Depending on whether we can get someone to scrimshaw will determine the scale materials. somebody else engrave and/or scrimshaw and finish. I can heat treat. 2. ? Who's next? Last edited by Don Robinson; 10-11-2007 at 07:00 PM. |

Let's make this project open to anyone else who wants to join TKCA simply by paying dues and work along with us.
This project and the knives should get into a Blade article. We need someone to keep track of who has what, and where it's going next. A person everyone communicates with. I know we have many members who never see this website, so please talk it up with everyone you deal with. Maybe we should send out a letter to all members. Great idea!
#2 "Texas Hog-sticker" A ~8-10" long 2" wide blade, made for hidden tang. I'll do the blade out of either 5160 or 1084, differentially heat treated, bead blasted finish. I have a blade I did for myself for hog-stick'n that still needs finishing. I'd love to do a matching blade and see what others come up with to finish it out. being differentially hardened, the spine is open to filework as well. |

That's great, Don.
Thanks for speaking up with your willingness to help the cause. If and when we get a few more offers I'll make up a separate list for each project listing those who are working on what. Did that make any sense? Now let's see a few more experienced makers add their names and tasks to get these 2 knives finished along with sheaths so we have a set. Everybody's work will be acknowledged. |
