Stones Show Life Begins at Sixty!
Hi all!
Despite the cynical reports we've all heard, I'm delighted to report that the Rolling Stones are definitely alive and still rockin'. Last night, Mrs. Moosehead and I attended the Stones "A Bigger Bang" concert at Montreal's Bell Centre (It's the Canadiens' hockey arena, eh), along with 18,000 other fans of all ages. For two uninterrupted hours the whole place rocked as the band kept everyone on their feet dancing away to song after song. Starting with "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and ending with "Satisfaction" The incredibly agile and energetic Mick, along with an equally enthusiastic Keith, Ron and Charlie, aided by some great backup musicians and vocalists kept us all moving through lots of oldies and some new songs too. It was easy to tell that these guys were really having fun. Who says the Stones are way over the hill? A bunch of out of shape couch potatoes I'd hazard to guess. Rock on... Cheers! Moosehead Songs played: JJ Flash You Got Me Rocking She's So Cold Tumblin' Dice Oh No Not You Again As Tears Go By Rain Fall Down Midnight Rambler Night Time Is The Right Time This Place Is Empty Happy Miss You Rough Justice Get Off My Cloud Honky Tonk Woman Sympathy Start Me Up Brown Sugar Can't Always Get What You Want Satisfaction __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! Moosie,
I was at the SteelWheels Concert when the Stones were here about 10-12 years ago. I was amazed then at how much energy they had, and it appears they still have! For the hard life and rought living these band members have participated in, they can still put out the tunes! :ee: Kent RKS #109 |

Hi Kent!
I've got bad news for you... The Steel Wheels tour took place in 1989/90! We also went to see that concert here which took place at the worst venue for a rock show our Olympic Stadium, otherwise known as the Big Owe! Unfortunately, the band looked like ants and the sound sucked. Just shows how "...time is not on our side, as tears go by..." Are there any other Stones fans out there in the world of RMK? I saw them in Fargo (!) a few years ago. I pretty much recall them as being short little fellas. I have a fairly solid recollection of the first hour, the middle is kinda fuzzy and by the end I'm sure it was good but the beer was even better. I'd go again.

Rolling Stones Now!
Mr. Mickley said: "I pretty much recall them as being short little fellas."
FROM: 'BILL BROWNSTEIN, The Montreal Gazette Published: Thursday, January 12, 2006 One beefy member of the Bell Centre security detail nudged his co-worker backstage. "Where are they?" he asked. "They're right in front of you!" the beefy security guard was informed. "Can't you see them?" "Are you serious? That's not them! No way! I can't believe it," he muttered to his co-worker. "Trust me, that's them!" the dubious fellow was informed. Small wonder, the security guard had difficulty identifying the Rolling Stones backstage at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night. Though they may be the world's biggest rock 'n' roll band, the boys therein, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts, are decidedly - um - little. (Guess-timate average height: maybe 5-foot-4.) And lean. (Guesstimate average weight: maybe 120 pounds soaking wet.) And, for that matter, not exactly boys, either. Jagger and Richards are 62; Watts, 64; and Woods, the baby at 58. And when they are surrounded by their own beefy security detail and their statuesque wives and girlfriends, the Stones can easily get lost in the shuffle...' Cheers! Moosie,
Your right. It was either 89 or 90. I must of smelled too much of that "blue stuff" that was in the air while I was working. Hits your memory first! Did that one in uniform. Trying to "keep the peace", but probally didn't succede! Thanks for have a better memory than me, and setting me straight! Kent RKS #109 |

Moosie,
I heard this morning that Brooks & Dunn will be the opening act for the Stones when they hit Oklahoma. Never having seen them live, I was wondering if they make a habit out of choosing unique opening acts. |

Hi RedElk!
I believe the Stones regularly use local acts to open their shows, and they will even give some real unknowns a break if they like their music. This was the case at the show we attended last week, as the opener was Anik Jean, who has just one album to her credit. You can check her out here: http://www.anikjean.com/ We weren't all that impressed with Madame Jean ourselves, but I think she was a tad nervous opening for the Stones. Cheers! Remember that country song a few years ago - (Tom T. Hall?)
"... Well, my poet days are over and I'm back to being me as I enjoy the peace and comfort of reality. If my boy ever asks me what it is that I have learned I think that I will readily affirm: It's Faster Horses, Younger Women, Older Whiskey, and More Money!" __________________ God bless Texas! The Stones rocked in Detroit and I really liked the Super Bowl half-time show for a change. (I thought the game was pretty good too.)
However, on Monday listening to radio reports, I heard the usual put downs; like how could a bunch of old men make such fools of themselves?, yadda, yadda, yadda.... One talk show host even suggested that Mick was the only one with the energy, and that he must have been on speed. And that they all must have collapsed right afterwards in their dressing rooms after the 12 minute stint. These people are just jealous and make me want to Cheers! ....I thought the halftime show was great. The Stones are amazing. Though, I was glad that they did not have any wardrobe malfunctions.
