What's wrong with the grind you have now?

For me, the biggest problem is twice as many plunge cuts. Clamping a couple of pieces of full hard O1 across the tang helps me keep the plunge cuts lined up.

I grind all dagger blades flat ground. It seems easier to me to get the centerline aligned with the point that way. After that, if I want a hollow grind, I go over it again on a wheel. Maybe that's not typical, but it works for me ......

Ron, tell me where you are having troubles and I will be happy to help if I can. If its evening up the plunges, a trick that Ron Lake still uses after decades of grinding blades is to start your plunges with a 1/8" round file first. This will set the nice radius and the angle of the grind. File it all the way to the top of the blade.
Any other problems let me know and we can talk in New York or just call me at home anytime. I LOVE them sleek dagger blades

Thanks Ray and Tim .for the advise ..My problem is getting that center line straight up the center of the blade and also the plunge line .. Tim I do like the idea that Lake uses I will try that .. WhenI start I use a 150 grit belt ..after grinding with that belt it dont look too bad, the plunge line is one of the problems and the center line is a little off at the choil end of the blade now where I get into trouble is when I try to use a finer belt to remove the 150 marks there is where I just destroy the first grind . I drag my blade across a flat rest against the plattem i lose control when i get to the end of the grind..TIM I will see you at the N. Y. show and I will bring one of my basket cases to show you may be you can save my sanity or may be I will keep on engraving .. thanks guys ..

Ron
I don't have the experience of the other guys that replied but I have had the same problem. My only solution was to slow the belt WAY down and put almost no pressure on the blade. A very light touch. It got to the point after a few daggers in a row that I could feel when the blade was in the right groove. I also never use any kind of finger protection when doing the fner grinds, that way I can really feel the knife, and on occassion the belt.
