Belt Recomendations

I am getting a 2x72 grinder and would like some insight on the many types of belts and maybe some recomendations. I am working with ATS-34 and 1095 for now. I could only get aluminum oxide on my small grinder. What other grit types are available on 2 x72 belts?

Thanks
TL

I like the Norton Hoggers (ceramic) from Tru-Grit for moving a lot of metal, the Hermes Superflex 406 belts for cleanup (aluminum oxide in 220 and 400 grit), and the Trizacs after that .

A lot will depend on what finish you like and how you learn to get it. There are many different processes that will take you to the same place. Ultimately, you will have to buy a sample of a lot of different belts to find out what you like and what works for you.........

Thanks for the advice. I am sure I will develop my own ideas eventually but I just needed a point in the right direction.

Thanks again

Wink

Different type belts for different grinds is not discussed much, but should be added here, I beleive. For flat grinding Trizacs are best, less flex in the belt so the angle remain flat. Norzacs are best for Hgrinding, more flex in the belt.

I had the same question. I've been using stuff from various sources on eBay. Last week I called Pop of Pop's Knife Supply (http://www.popsknifesupplies.com/). I got quite an education and a bunch of good quality belts at a great price. He doesn't mind taking the time to educate newbies like me and I don't believe you can beat his prices. He's only open from 4 PM to 8 PM weekdays.
