440C, not really sure

I just found some 440 C in one inch bars I need to make paring knives. Now I discover I really do not know how to heat treat 440C. I do not have anything to do subzero with it so it is just heat treat for me. Help...

Some of the steel manufacturers and the big suppliers have heat treating instructions online. Evenheat has online info also. They make heat treat ovens. Many people still use dry ice/ acetone or some other liquid to freeze the steel. Do a search here for past info.

Talking

I use 440C sometimes, this is what i do that works for me. 1900 F for 30 minutes, quench with quench plates. you can cool it down with dry ice, you will notice a change in hardness of plus two. temper at 375 for 30 minutes. for me this recipe results in 62 HRC. which is what i'm after, if i wanted a hatchet, i'd make a hatchet. there will be other recipes out there but this one is fool proof for me and consistently perfect results. search on here for more, they are bound to be out there.
