Look Here For Kit Screw Sizes

This question is asked 10 times a day.
Here is the answer.

The screws for the bolsters and handle scales are the same size.
2 mm .04 thread PAN HEAD TORX . These are very close to our 1-72 threads. If you need a spare just get a 1-72 and run the tap through the hole and the 1-72 will fit.

For the liners they are 2mm x .04 flat heads Same deal!!!!!!!!!

Darrel,

Thanks for clearing that up.

So, why then do you spec stepdrill #S-56 for the knifekits? According to the site's description this is for 2-56 socket screws. This is what caused so much of my confusion.

Folks,
The pan head torx 1-72 specs out at .140-.145 diameter on the head.
Our designs are made with this size head for the extra gripping power of the pan head. (MORE AREA ON THE SCALE)
A 2-56 pan head is much larger. The button head is also.
The S-56 is designed to fit both sizes. (1-72 pan head and the 2-56 socket head)
The exception is that the S-56 is for a 2-56 SOCKET HEAD SCREW Not a 2-56 pan OR button head screw. Some folks like the socket heads in their Knives. We dont . They are to deep (high) on the head thickness. This does not allow for thin scales without grinding some of the head away.
We like a little clearance around the screw body and head for a reason on the 1-72 or 2 mm .04 pan head thread.
The reason for this is handle alignment after finish. I have made many knives with scales. The biggest problem is re aligning the scales after they are finished to the bolster. If you dont leave a little room for the scales to move it is almost impossible to re align the handles with tight screws especially with natural handle material. (shrinkage and growth).

About the button head sizes .
We do not use any button head screws on our kits. These step drills are for folks who what to use them in their custom knives. THE SIZE ON THE DRILL HEAD SIZE AND BODY ARE DESIGNED FOR BUTTON HEAD SCREWS SIZES ONLY. THE SIZE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE SOCKET HEADS AND PAN HEADS.
AGAIN WE DONT USE ANY BUTTON HEAD SCREWS ON OUR KITS.

I hope this explains the situation.
Now BUILD SOME KITS! NOSE TO THE SANDING BELTS!!!!!!!
Where are the GPC'S! Bring them to me! BWAHHAHAHAHHA
