santoku blade?

I find myself in the need to make a santoku for a gift, but I can't find a decent blade to make one with. I am still pretty rough at making my own blades.

Anyone know where to find one?

Hmmm, that's one I haven't seen as a kit blade. But, if you're interested, I have damascus blade that I was about to offer for sale here. I could easily reshape it to be a Santoku. Here's a few Santoku's that I've made in the past: http://www.rayrogers.com/santoku.htm

This blade is a stub tang ....

am quite shocked there's no kits to be had for santoku's considering how hot of an item they are.

Thanks, Frank, you are too kind.

Ed,
I don't know that there are NO Santoku lit blades out there but I looked through my Sheffield's, K&G, and Jantz catalogs and didn't find one....

Ray, thanks for the offer, but I'm pretty sure I can't afford it. I'll keep looking, may just have to settle with a standard chef's blade

Well, here's another idea that just occurred to me: many Santoku's are fairly short, only about 7 to 8". If you found a 10" chef's blade, especially a German style where the full width is maintained for most of the length, it could probably be reshaped into a shorter Santoku ....
