Voting closed.
A deserving round of applause to Buddy Thomason for his vote-grabbing entry. Buddy is still recovering from being the 'bridesmaid' from a gazillion second-best entries in years past. I think he's honed his skills rather nicely at this point. And a deserving round of applause to every other member who entered. I would like to go over each of the entries later in the week to critique them as I see fit. You may do the same. Thank YOU! Coop |

Buddy's picture was awesome, and in my opinion probably the hardest knife to photograph of the lot. It's size, and surface finishes must have made it a real challange to keep all areas in focus and light properly. He does such a good job with his edits, and I really do like the "floating" look he uses now and then. All the entries were were decent photo's, but Buddy's was "clearly" the best.. One comment, I wish Dr. Carter's submission was a bit larger so I could pick out the details of the knife a bit better, especially since the inserts gave nice close up looks at the knife..
Well Done Buddy, and to all who entered.... Rich |

Thanks, fellas. That image was the result of my fourth attempt to shoot that knife, in hopes of somehow revealing it's appeal. I wish I could just lay the knife down on the table, take the picture and have it turn out right every time. It hardly ever happens that way for me. First... I have to suffer.
For me, the challenges making this image successful were: 1. Making sure the handle, guard area and blade are all properly illuminated and retain detail. 2. Experimenting to find the right background - both color and effect. I appreciated all the entries and hope we have a chance for everybody to discuss their own entry and their reactions to the others. PS: Coop refers to the fact that, having virtually learned knife photography on this forum, I entered and lost this contest 27 times before winning one. I learned a ton between #1 and #27 and that made all the difference. |

Yes, it was a great picture Buddy and really showed the detail of the knife.
