Stainless Steel Spacers Coloring

I want to try to color the stainless spacers in the folder I made. Can it be done with a Mapp or Propane torch ? I was just trying to get them goldish so they would stand out on the blue liners.

It's possible but difficult to get even colouration with a torch. It works better in a furnace. If you only have a torch I suggest that you place your liner on a larger metal plate and then try and heat evenly from below by moving the flame to and fro. Colouring only starts above 250c. Maybe practice a little on a scrap piece first

I've used my Mom's spatula on the kitchen stovetop burner. You can watch as the stainless turns colors.

I have a glass top burner. So i guess i can just set them on top and turn it on. flick them off to the side when the color comes up ? Hmm

You have to anticipate the colors. Learn which color comes after the first and catch the one you want as soon as it appears.

If I were you, though, I'd flick them off onto your linoleum tile floor.

It turned out nice. I got a purplish brown color. More purple. I had a LED flash light on them and It was real hard to see it change. I pulled them over to the side and turned light off and WAH LAH !
