Robert, Thats a good looking dagger! Was that your first attempt? Were you able to use the rotary platen to do the grind on it? Last question, did you finally retire?

Nice knife, Robert! Reminds me vaguely of an old Kershaw Trooper; an upscale version to be sure. Looks really nice with that micarta and single red accent. I like it!

Retire?????? Yes, I turned in my paperwork and my last working day will be December 20th. Now I will be able to spend a little more time trying to learn how to make these danged knives and sheaths. Robert |

Thanks for the nice comments on the knife guys.
As far as retiring, I don't mind admitting........... I'm scared to death. I have been working since 1959, and full-time since 1965. Never been without a job. I know that I will have to do a little "life" adjusting. I just hope that I can live out my few remaining years doing something I enjoy, and can have the opportunity to share a little knowledge with others who might, by chance, follow in my footsteps. Thanks again, Robert |

Robert,
I know you feel like you're on a greased skateboard headed down a steep hill with a wall at the bottom, but you're gonna be OK. Once you wake up from the impact and realize you're still breathing, it all starts getting easier. Helps to know you can tell them to bugger off, and not worry about it. Nice knife by the way, even though you didn't forge it. Shame to grind 1084, it's the soft butter of forging steels. Missed your ugly mug at Trackrock ol' buddy. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Robert,
Congratulations on your retirement. The hardest thing about retirement is realizing that sometimes you need to tell them to "bugger off" as Carl puts it. Seems like some people can't stand to see a man doing something he likes, so they plan other things for you to do. You probably already have some friends working on it and don't even know it yet. We will be hosting the Georgia Guild meeting on the 10th of February at Twin Blades shop. Carl and some others are going to come down early, so we can beat up some steel on Friday. If you can make it , we would be glad to have you come. Might be a good break from all that spare time. Good luck and come see us if you get a chance. |
