Stick tang in a stick

Here's something I've been doing when ever I can get a hold of some prime sticks. It seems logical and tends to lend itself to relief carving and geometric forms.

This is a pre-form for the handle, but I thought I'd take a shot at this stage, showing the natural growth rings of the wood.

Very cool Tai, very cool indeed. I absolutely love those integral knives you've been making lately too!

The wood is Ogase. My guess is that keeping the tang centered in the growth rings will also add stability.

To make the handle a tapered oval, first I make it rectangle and tapered, then take off the 4 corners equally, then eight then 16, etc.. out into infinity.

####. I wish I could draw out my ideas on paper half as good as you. Nice concept - I am drooling to see the finished product. By the way, a smaller version of that would make an -excellent- knife in the hat. Hint Hint.

####, I hoping that you were going to post the details of the construction in full, unfortunately, since you're taking the corners to infinity, we'll never see it finished and you'll never get there!

Thanks for posting this Tai, I'm looking forward to seeing the continuation of the saga! I'm at the edge of my seat!

BTW, I too wish I could draw my ideas that nicely!

Many moons ago I read a bit of research that an annular ring stick like this is some ten (?) times stronger than a striaght cut piece of wood. Not that it would make a huge difference especially on a stick tang knife, but I thought it was interesting.

Very cool. Looking forward to seeing this one finished especially since I've got this ones baby brother in my shop  (note to myself: quit drooling - you'll rust it)

BTW - Tai what ever happened to the Full Moon knife?????

Here's a shot with the ends shouldered down for the ferrule and end cap.

What's that bit between the integral and the wood? A silver spacer?
