do you use a tool rest?

I do flat grinding on a two wheeled 2 X 72. Do most makers use a tool rest to set the back of the blade on when grinding or are you mostly free handing?
Thanks
Steve

Personally I free hand all my blades....takes practice, but after my little accident using a rest...I only use them for profiling!!! make sure it`s tight and real close to the belt!!! I use a 8" disc for all my grinding so a rest would prolly be in the way anyhow!

I'm just a newbie but must agree with Ron. I'm a little scared of using a tool rest so never have. I taught myself to free hand it from the start and so far am glad I did. Plus once I modified my grizzly, their tool rest wouldn't reach anyway.
