Children & Grandchildren in knifemaking
This is the latest knife by Dean Gates. Dean has been at all of our meetings and has been helpful in getting the Guild up and running.
Dean and his wife are part of a fun experience in knifemaking. Dean had been interested in knives for a while. He had made a few when he met John but was having some problems with technique with some things he wanted to try. John has helped Dean with advice and hands-on at John's shop. Since the Guild has come into being, Dean's wife, Lori, is also becoming interested in knives. Dean and John have been giving Lori instructions. Lori has completed her first two with the second one being totally hers--meaning she cut it out, ground it to shape, did the handle, all the fit and finish without any help. As soon as I get a picture of it, I will post it along side Dean's and we can see the result of what I like to call John's "child and grandchild in knifemaking". This knife is 440C with 416 fittings and giraffe bone on the handle. Last edited by mrsjoan; 04-18-2004 at 04:27 PM. |

The Grandchild
This is the knife by Lori (Dean's wife). This is the 2nd one she made that was made 100% completely by her from start to finish with absolutely no help. She is quite proud of this and I do have a good time teasing Dean about Lori's talent.
John is also quite proud of his "granddaughter" in knifemaking. |
