Soldering help
Can somone please help with advice on soldering 416 stainless guard to a 5160 (It's coil spring from a car)steel forged blade. I have a stay brite soldering kit.
I have soldered 01 to brass before but have read that the solder will not take to the stainless as well as brass. Do I need to treat the stainless in some way? Thanks Jamie. |

I use the same solder for brass and SS, allthough stainless is more difficult to solder. Why dont you take some scrap pieces of 416 and see if you can solder it together? If you get that right you shouldn't have any problem to solder SS to 5160.
