6150 should better 5160 in all regards by a small margin... same or better edge holding, a bit better grain structure, greater impact hardness, so IMO a better choice for a blade that is going to be beat to death in hostile environments.

Here are my designs out of 6150 - 20" total length

Golok - 20" OAL - 14" blade - 6" handle - 6mm spine - weight 1lb 13oz

Duku Chandong 19" OAL - 13" blade (11" cutting area) - 1lb 15oz.

Hi everyone,

l find You,

l received a piece (1000 x 43 x 7 mm) of AISI 6150 spring steel.

Need useful tips-

It will be worked in open or gas forge, still not sure.

Dimensions for future blade :

It will be a relatively large camp knife, skandy konvex edge, no secondary bevel.

Approximately 6mm thick, rhombic blade (thickest in the middle), about 200-210 mm long.

Hidden tang, maximum width 30-32mm in the middle of the blade.

Hardness, hmm about 57-58 Hrc.

Thank You for useful informations and tips.
