Ripping out the old shop

My little cellar is getting its makover this week.

Just got done loading the truck up with.....well.....junk. Its amazing how much junk can be stored in such a small space.

Have to finish one more knife tomorrow before I can rip out the work bench.

After that, I am going to use Aqua Loc on the CMU walls of the cellar, and then Ucoat the floor. After that we are going to hang some florescent lights, and put up some hardy backer for a ceiling and paint it white.
I have a new workbench designed to accomodate all my tools, and my new vise. that will hold my new filing/finishing vise.

My biggest problem with my little shop was lighting. So I figure after finishing everything in a brighter color, and installing some better lighting, I should be a lot more productive.

It took my latest knife to let me know that something needed to change. BAD.

I thought for sure I had the blade sanded enough to remove all the file marks, and it was ready for HT. Well I was wrong. I didnt notice the file marks until after heat treat, and they will not sand out with hand sanding. They arent "bad" but noticeable.

So its time for a change. More light. More function. More productivity.

Back to work.

Good luck with the new plans and let us see some pictures when your done. I too I'm suffering
from to much stuff in my shop. It really slows down the productivity. It even seems to be a shop hazard.
I must do something about it soon. Jim

Too much stuff. Knife-making stuff, keep-the-house-in-good-repair stuff, kid's stuff, car stuff... I know what you mean. Cleaning out the shop is a good thing, once in a while; sort of a soul-cleansing I guess. It gets real bad when you find stuff you didn't know you had - and you've bought a new one twice since already!

Good luck with your project!
