Edge Thickness
Hello,
When I am grinding a blade, how thin do I need to grind the edge before I stop and shapen it? Is the same for hollow and flat grinding? Thanks, Doug Adams Carrollton, Ga John 3:16 |

Depends on the overall knife design and intended use of the blade. That's why there are so many different styles and sizes of knives, all with their own criteria for edge geometry.
We need to talk about that next time you come over. Lot more to it than meets the eye. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Aye, it depends... on a convex, I take it down to nothing, but leave a bit on a flat-grind. Also the intended use needs to be considered, a hunter/skinner/butcher's edge needs to be thinner than a knife intended for woodworking or chopping.
