ball point pen spring
Would the spring out of a ball point pen be strong enough for use under the button on a button lock knife?

I'd venture to guess that the average bpp spring (I.E., the average plastic click pens you pick up at the drugstore/supermarket) would be a little light for what you'd want on a button lock. MAYBE some of the heaviest bpp springs you could find would be adequate. You'd have to just figure it out by trial and error.
Personally, I'd just order some button springs from knifekits.com or a similar knife parts store, as these are made for that specific purpose. At a dollar and some change per spring, they might seem a little pricey, but when you factor them in as a percentage of the overal cost of the knife (especially considering what a vital part they play), it's really not that expensive. |
