Newbie

Greetings Arkansas everyone. Just stumbled in. I haven't made a commitment to making knifes yet but love browsing around and seeing how things are done. Also appreciate the ingenuity of the special jigs and fixture designs.

Well, you came to the right place although, for the most part, we don't need many jigs or fixtures. You might consider building a couple of kit blades just to get your feet wet - a few ordinary hand tools will get the job done if you add enough sweat. Look at knifekits.com to see the wide variety of kits that are available these days. Most of us started that way ...

You really wanna get bit. Take a yellow hot piece of steel and strike it with a hammer. Let the anvil sing a song and the hammer keep time.
To see something that wasn't become a thing of beauty is amazing, to be the one that has the honor of doing it; well, your bit.
Like ray said, you can start with knife assembling or full on smithing or pick a point in between.

Good luck.

Getting a couple of good books and doing some reading ahead of time can help you not make some expensive mistakes.

Welcome aboard. You're nested in bladesmithing territory.....grab a hammer and visit one of your crazy neighbors.
