Alibaba for power hammer?

I was looking at the alibaba site for power hammers... Why I don't know. But I figuredmaybe i'd see how much something like that would cost via shipping from china.. Should I assume if its Made in china it's HF quality? And has anyone delt with alibaba before? Should I just look for a old little giant?

My understanding is that Alibaba.com is Amazon for China. Not that it's bad, just that it aggregates stuff and is not a manufacturer. According to Forbes its customer base is primarily China.

Lots of stuff made in China is better than HF quality, Grizzly's tools for instance. Quality aside, I'd recommend you look for a press rather than a hammer. A press will do anything a hammer will do and do it far more quietly which could be important if you have neighbors. Hammers are also very mechanical and more likely to break than a press.

Hammers can draw out a bar faster than a press and they are probably better for some types of fabricating and ornamental work. But for knives and damascus most people would be better off with a press ...

love my 50LB LG Nate , just keep an open eye and ear for one, be patient and eventually one will surface for you.......
I have recently stumbled across a 25lb'r to that I'm trying to grab as well , why ? hmm why not !!
actually because in these neck of the woods they are hard to come by, decent shape can fetch a good buck or just keep for a 2nd......I know where theres a nice press for sale........eventually

Ray, how big is your press size wise?
Rob, you ever have any probems with the LG?

I was looking at the ABA website where they built "Rusty" & "Dusty" power hammers on the cheap and they claim they both hit harder than a LG of the same size but im not sure i could fab up something like that..

the reason for leaning towards a hammer rather than a press is because i want to do alot more blacksmithing and making ornimental stuff rather than just knives....
But i agree with Ray that a hammer may be more problematic than a press...

Thanks guys! ~Nate

Size wise? Well, physically it stands about 5'6" or so and is maybe 8" deep front to back. The there's the fluid tank and motor that sits off to the side, that's less than a two foot cube. The whole thing weighs under 300 pounds at a guess and unlike a power hammer it does not require a cement pad under it. It supplies 25 tons of pressing power and cycles very quickly.

Reciprocating hammers are very 'blacksmithy' and cool for all that but there are good reasons why they have largely been replaced by air hammers in industry and by presses by knife makers specifically. I strongly suggest that you visit someone who has a good press and get familiar with it. You might find you can do everything you want to do without the hassle and expense (yes, I said presses are probably cheaper overall than hammers) of a power hammer ......

runs like a sewing machine Nate hasn't skipped a beat.........I haven't done anything other than change the belt , it was toast , went with the link belt and works perfect.......as fall settles in I plan on using it alot more in the coming months.....I was pretty patient in aquiring one and this deal fell in my lap for a song so I had to grab it asap (next day). It was a 6 hour drive but I was grinning the whole dam way !! I tied in a work visit so my expenses were covered as well , getting it to the back wall in my shop was a bit of a chore but nothing a few Canadian Budweiser's couldn't assist with..............
