New Maker in Greensboro
Hi everyone,
Super excited to have found this forum on Knife Network. I am a machinist by trade, relatively new at that too but have a niche for it somewhat. For quite a while I have desired to have a hobby that could double as a side business. All sorts of ideas went through my head but nothing ever really landed. Then, just a few weeks ago, making knives came to me out of no where and for no reason really. I started reading everything I could and watching all the YouTube videos I could too and thought to myself, "I can do this!" ...the guys in the videos make it look easy.
I bought what I could on a budget but I think I'm starting out pretty good. I'm going the stock removal method. First I cleared out a section of my garage and built a pretty good work area. Then I bought a Craftsman 2x42 grinder. I have a bunch of other tools but just trying to learn more and more.
Is there anyone here on the forum near the Greensboro area?

Nice to meet you. I am new to knifemaking as well. You may want to come and join the NC Custom Knifemakers Guild. We meet four times a year in Troy NC. Great info and wonderful people.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do plan to attend the Knife Makers Guild as much as I can. How are the Gun & Knife shows? I've surprisingly never been to one before.

Gun and Knife shows have never been good to me . But knife show are pretty good to knife makers . The best thing is to plaster pictures all over the internet , every where is the best way to sell a knife .
Hope you can get to some NC guild meetings .

Gun shows are hit and miss. Knife shows are also hit and miss. Like Art said plaster pics everywhere. Start a facebook page with your knives . That seems to do pretty good for the cost as its free. Welcome to the addiction.

Hey Andy, thanks for the advice. Instagram seems to be a top place to go to also. I'm getting tons of hits and followers there.

Art Instagram is just facebook but for Mobile phones. While it is not Facebook it is a social media forum much like Facebook. IE you can follow people etc. Its an app you put on your cellphone.

I've been hard at work the last several months. Started making in December and I think I'm at 25 or 26 knives now. Here is a link on my Facebook page to those that I have made https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...0260038&type=3
I'm going to be out of town on vacation and will miss the July 18th meeting. Seems something has come up with all of them this year so far. I do really want to get out to one and get involved with the Guild and meet a lot of you.

Hi Andy, thank you for the compliment. I've enjoyed making them and hope to keep doing it for a lifetime. I looked at your webpage too and man I really like your military knives a lot. I'm in NW Greensboro. How about you?
