I have had Photoshop Elements for about a year and finally decided that it was high time I began to learn how to use it.

After a lot of frustration and some help from Buddy (thank you) here are some of my first results.

They are not perfect, it's a real learning curve, but it has been fun to see the end result.

Cal,

Very nice job extracting the images onto a different backround. The first knife pic could be sharpened up just a tiny bit more and near the tip of the knife you can experiment with the clone tool to bring back some of the cutting edge of the knife or carefully with a small diameter (hard brush) use the black backround to make it appear smoother near the tip of the blade. The white balance on the first pic is very slightly warm. Adjust a tiny bit more to the cooler (blue) side. Remember to duplicate the original before you work on the image, that way you can always delete the duplicate and start over again. Enlarging the image to 300% helps with the fine details.

I am glad you put some time into learning Photoshop Elements. It will become easier everytime you use the program and in no time will seem like second nature.

Kudos to Buddy for helping you with Elements.

Barbara

Thanks for the comments and suggestions Barbara, much appreciated.

The one thing I have learned, when taking the initial photo of the knife have it on a background with a bit of color, it sure makes it a lot easier to select and clean up the edges of the blade.

A contrasting backround makes for an easier extraction. I know my eyes aren't what they once were. Again, very nice work.

Very nice job, Cal. I especialy like the second one as the overall integration results in a very pleasing image.
