Holding an edge generally isn't a problem with a file knife assuming a file with good steel was used. Being too brittle would be more likely. But, if you did the HT in your new oven then that probably isn't a problem either.

I really like the aesthetics of your design, you incorporated the file's features into the knife tastefully and cleverly. Giving the handle some shapely contours was also a nice touch and much more interesting than a slab sided handle...

Thanks all, I buy Nicholson files mostly used I get a fair amount of practice on them. I get them soft grind and quench in brine I have not had one ping or crack yet that I can see anyway. I like these small knives they build fast and let me try new ideas with a small investment.

Clarify for me, since my brain seems to be on the fritz. You soften the files, and then grind them to shape and edge?

What temp do you use to do so?

I've got a buttload of old files, and would love to do some like this.
