Using Cobalt Drill Bits
I've been trying to drill a hole in a stainless steal butter knife with a cobalt drill bit using cutting oil to no effect. I'm confused...I thought cobalt bits were designed for drilling in stainless steal and other hard metals? I assume I'm missing something... Thanks for any help or insight... Thanks, raven339 |

Using Cobalt Drill Bits
I've use a carbide spade drill. That works for me. A.T. Barr www.customknives.com 859.885.1042 If you make, sell, or just love knives and want a website with your name customknives.com/your.name, for $70.00 a year, check out www.customknives.com/webdesign |

Cobalt bits will last longer than plain tool steel, but neither one was designed to drill through hardened steel. A.T. is right- you need carbide for that job. |

Either carbide drills, or spot anneal where you want the hole and drill it while it is red hot. The discoloration will buff off. |
