Exclamation 2004 Special Olympics Knife

Each year, along with Central Utah Academy - the Education Department, we donate a knife to the Central Utah Correctional Facility for their fund raising campaign for Special Olympics.
Larry Nordell is one of the greatest fund raisers in the state for this organization that does so much for kids with special needs.

This year we've made up a special version of my very lightweight "Personal" model hunter:

3 1/2" blade. Steel is 1/8" thick ATS-34, heat treated to 59-60 RC, high polish, tapered tang, nice Desert Ironwood handles, and an assortment of materials for the fittings: nickel silver ferrule at front of handle, brass handle fasteners and stainless thong tube liner. The trademark is my smallest size and is "centered" on the blade, rather than toward the rear where it is usually located. The sturdy cowhide sheath is made by Nate Christensen, a maker of fine saddles in Moroni, Utah.

I really like this lightweight little hunter, weighing about 6 oz., including sheath. We hope someone out there will like it and help out in this worthy cause. We'd appreciate if any of you could participate and send me your offers for this knife, all of which will go to, and be receipted by, the Special Olympics.

Thanks, Steve srj@mail.manti.com

It's on display at C.U.C.F. in Gunnison. I don't know how you'd get in there to see it - well I guess you could handle that if you set your mind to it - but............getting back out?? There's the rub!

I'll get it back in a few week's in order to ship it out to the person who makes the best offer. Maybe you can see it then. However, I did take the photo myself, so you probably can't do much better than that, even in real life! LOL!!!

Its a King Salmon and I caught that just outside Sitka Alaska. Weighed 48 lbs. and was a bugger to bring in. If you ever get a chance, Sitka has some incredible salmon fishing along with the Halibut, Cod and Sea Bass. This july we are going to try the Queen Charlotte Islands for a change.

The Special Olympics "Personal Hunter" sale finishes up this Friday, 5/14 2004.

Thanks a million to everyone who has, or will help. It's really appreciated!

Gabe newell gets the highest offer and the knife.

Thanks Gabe, who also made eh best offer last year. And "thank you" to everyone who were so supportive and generous - those who made offers online and also all of those who did so at C.U.C.F. Especially Barbara Peterson with her generous offer of $350, that I recently found out about! I always knew she wanted a Johnson hunter!
