Companion Knife for Antique Pistol
My two hobbies combined - making knives and collecting antique guns. This almost mint 19th century 12mm pin fire pistol was just screaming for a display case and companion knife. I used an antique case and fitted it for the gun and made a matching knife. The blade is forged from W1 with a rosewood grip and steel guard and pommel. The steel is fire-blued to match the gun. This is the sixth companion knife I have made for a gun, and it turned out good...
Thanks for looking! __________________ Chris K. Two Mountains Forge Delta, BC, Canada www.twomountainsforge.com |

Wow is all I can say
What a matching pair, the flute grooves you put on the knife handle to match the pistol handle is superb. I can't imagine the time you put into it. The blade and guard-pommel are great. Very complimentary. What is the wood of the pistol grips if you know? I just love those fluted handles, a lot of handwork there. (Please don't tell me they were done in a cnc.LOL)

No, no CNC - all hand work. The wood on the knife is Indian rosewood, the closest I could find in tone to match the gun. I think it's a European walnut, judging from the pattern of the grain, but all my walnut is American - much darker and a different shade of brown. Thanks for your kind comments!

I have some lignum vitae that closely matches the darkness of the pistol grips, but it isn't usually that dark, I just happen to have a dark piece. At least I think that is what it is. I acquired it a long time ago and maybe it darkened. Many woods do.
