KMG grinder review..........
The article on my new KMG grinder is ready for public viewing. It is rather large, with lots of pics, so loading may be slow. However, it contains my impressions and thoughts on this machine, and I would suggest reading it if you are thinking of purchasing a new grinder. You can find it at:www.caffreyknives.net/articles.htm There is also a link to the page posted on my home page at www.caffreyknives.net |

Just in time!!
Thanks Ed, and I just reviewed the site. I have lot's of gears turning right now because of this!
I read the Frink article in the CKD newsletter, and ran into the Koval folks right here in my home turf at the NCCA knife show in Stamford, CT. I had a bagful of materials, glue and other misc goodies--but what REALLY caught my eye was the massive KMG-1 grinder. It is very well made and looks as sturdy as all get-out. So I talked with Mick Koval at length, and had to assess my own needs for my growing knife-building interest. I say it that way, because I have ZERO experience with blade grinding, as some of you guys know. I knew it was going to be simply a matter of time before I got a good machine. Hmmmmmm..... Anyway--I ended up taking advantage of a show-special price, immediate delivery (via handtruck to my pickup outside!), and a special 'tax-free' deal. (Mick is clever!) I saved a couple hunnerd dollars after the smoke cleared. I have so much to do, and so much to learn, but you guys will be my backup. Kudo's to the KMG-1 !! Coop (who needs to convert his little condo-garage into a knifemaker's shop!) |

A good grinder is an excellent start, Coop.
A drill press and a bandsaw of some kind is next, a buffer and dremel is nice as well. Don't forget a good vise or two, oh, and hand files... |

Ah Coop, it's a slippery slope from here on out. You're gonna LOVE this machine I can assure you. We'll be anxious to see what you come up with in the coming months.
