chemical resistance

How chemical resistant are the different synthetic handle materials, specifically carbon fiber? I've used polyester resins mixed with ivory pieces to make some nice mosaic handles before, and I've used several comercial synthetic slab materials. I really like the way carbon fiber looks on handles, as well. I haven't had any problems with chemical degredation of handles. However, if someone is working around acetone or other hydrocarbons and grabs the handle with "damp" hands, will this cause the surface of the handle to become tacky?

I was going to get some CF mat and experiment with making my own slabs. Which would work better as a binder...polyester or epoxy resin...or something totally different? Polyester seems to finish much nicer with regards to being buffed and such, but epoxy is tougher. it seems the most preferred finish for these materials is fine grit sanding, which would make the buffing a moot point. Is this correct?

Suggestions, thoughts, comments?
